Piaggio P-180 Avanti Weird Push Turboprop

If you have ever looked up at the sky and saw an aircraft with its propellers pushing it through the sky rather than pulling it, it was most likely a Piaggio P-180 Avanti. The Avanti is extremely fast for a turboprop aircraft. It cruises at around 400 knots which is about 100 knots faster than the Beechcraft King Air, one of the more popular turboprop aircraft. The Piaggio with the pusher prop configuration allows for a much quieter flight than more turboprops due to the props being located behind the cabin.

How much does a Piaggio P-180 Avanti Cost?

The cost of a brand new P-180 would set you back about $7 million. The price is fairly competitive considering is incredible speed, efficiency and cabin comfort. However the aircraft is quickly losing popularity having sold 30 in 2008 but only 2 in 2013. I guess not everyone loves the looks of this thing!

Who uses the Piaggio P-180 Avanti?

There are many government agencies that use the Piaggio including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Italian Military, the United Arab Emirates Military, the Bulgarian Military, and the Polish Medical Air Rescue. The aircraft is commonly seen chartering business executive around as well.
